What to do when an Accident Occurs
An auto accident occurs every five seconds. We hope it doesn't happen to you, but if you're involved in an automobile or motorcycle accident, here are some tips on what to do:
- In the event of a severe accident where someone is injured, call 911 or the police and stay at the scene until they arrive.
- Stay calm.
- File a police report, no matter how minor the damage to your car or motorcycle.
- As soon as possible, write down the facts of the accident, including:
- Date and time of day
- Location of accident
- Names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance companies and license numbers of all drivers involved
- Makes and models of other vehicles involved
- Names, addresses and phone numbers of all passengers and witnesses
- Injuries to any involved parties
- Damage to property
- Name of police department and officers investigating the accident
- Call the toll-free claims number for your area, regardless of who is at fault.
